Two industry upstarts – U Mobile and OPPO Mobile Malaysia – have struck a special partnership to launch prepaid and postpaid bundle plans for OPPO Joy and OPPO Neo 5 smartphones to Malaysian customers. This is the first time OPPO has collaborated with a telco to offer device bundle plans, in Malaysia.

Jasmine Lee, U Mobile’s chief marketing officer and William Fang, OPPO Mobile Malaysia chief executive officer was present at the launch held at the U Mobile flagship store in Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur.

OPPO Neo 5 and and OPPO Joy

Big value bundles

Targeted at first time smartphone buyers, the OPPO Joy, first launched in 2014, is an entry-level Android smartphone offered with a prepaid bundle. The smartphone is priced at RM348 (US$106) and will be available from 27 October 2014 onwards.

When you purchase the OPPO Joy, you get RM20 top up vouchers and a U Mobile Prepaid Starter Pack worth RM8. Even sweeter, from the third month onwards, you get free 250MB mobile internet data with every RM30 top up for the next four months within the promo period. The promo period is valid for six months from the Prepaid Start Pack activation date.

The OPPO Neo 5, launched in August 2014, is one of the most affordable LTE Android smartphones in the market. Retailing at RM598 (US$183), you get a free subscription of the U58 plan for the first 6 months. The U58 plan gives you 2GB high speed mobile internet data and 300 minutes of voice calls.

Note that you will tied to a 24-month contract.

The partnership between U Mobile and OPPO aims to capture greater market share, targeted at the youth and young professionals.

The two young, dynamic brands are already in talks to offer more value-for-money devices and deals for the near future.
