U Mobile introduces U CARE Plus 8 mobile device insurance & protection plan

U Mobile continues to show its dynamism and creativity with the introduction of the U CARE Plus 8 plan, a comprehensive mobile device insurance and protection plan in partnership with Tecprotec.

If you’ve not heard of Tecprotec, it’s probably because they’ve not been very ‘visible’ in consumer eyes. It is however, a Malaysian company operating since 2006, specialising in mobile device protection programs and in fact, a leader in South East Asia with over 600,000 customers in total. Tecprotec was initially created in partnership with the Cobra Group in UK, with MTIS which is Carphone Warehouse’s UK.

The new U CARE Plus 8 plan protects your precious mobile devices – from phones to smartphones, and tablets against accidental or liquid damage for just RM8 a month or RM88 annually. It is available exclusively to all existing and new U Mobile postpaid subscribers. While not the first nor the only one, the plan is the most affordable device insurance and protection plan in the market.

The plan insures any new or existing devices purchased from U Mobile or third parties that is up to ten months old, and comes with a maximum 60 days worldwide coverage. The mobile device is also insured against the cost of repair or replacement for up to RM1,000 for accidental and liquid damage.

Your mobile device isn’t the only thing that is protected, you will also get free personal accident coverage of up to RM2,000.

Making a claim is hassle- and frills-free. All you need to do is call the 1-300-80-1318 toll free number, complete and submit the official claim documents, and a free pick-up service will be arranged. The damaged device will undergo an assessment then once approved, you merely need to pay remaining excess fees. The device will be repaired and delivered within seven working days.

Parts that are replaced are covered by a 3-month warranty.

In case the device is beyond repair, U Mobile will provide a replacement offer. A user can walk into any U Mobile outlet, select a phone of choice, pay the differential between sum insured and cost of the new device, to walk home with a new device.

George Hashim, International Director of Business Development from Tecprotec said, “Based on our own research and historical claim data, we realized that there is a high incidence of damaged mobile devices, primarily headphones and the launch of the U CARE Plus 8 plan is indeed very timely.”

Hashim added during the Q&A session with media that they are working on a device theft protection plan and will introduce this in the future.
