Most of you may already be familiar with TP-Link, for its plethora of networking products namely internet routers, mobile Wi-Fi modems and more. What you probably didn’t know is that they also have a smartphone brand called Neffos. Neffos today made its Malaysian debut with two budget smartphones – Neffos C5 and C5L. Malaysia is one of the first countries in the world to see the arrival of the Neffos brand.
First, a little bit about Neffos. TP-Link is the world’s #1 in Wi-Fi networking products, and it made an entry into the smartphone segment in February. Neffos marks an expansion from its fixed equipment business (router, smart home, cloud services).
Neffos C5
The Neffos C5 features a 5-inch HD IPS display and is a dual-SIM, dual-standby 4G LTE device. It’s pleasant looking, weighing in at 141g and measuring 8.8mm in depth.
Underneath its Pearl White or Dark Grey enclosure is quad-core 64-bit MediaTek MTK6735 processor mated to a Mali-T720 MP2, a familiar combo amongst budget phones.
It gets 2GB of RAM, with 16GB of onboard storage. If 16GB feels limiting, there’s microSD for further storage expansion.
The device packs a decent 8MP rear camera with dual LED flash, while the front gets a 5MP wide-angle selfie camera.
While the hardware specs aren’t too much to shout about, Neffos touts the device’s overall mobile experience circled around Android 5.1 and custom ‘smart’ features.
Like the Galaxy Note5, that costs a whole lot more, it gets Smart Screenshot, that allows you to capture multiple screenshots that stitch together for an extended, seamless shot.
It’s also focused on the camera, and its seflie feature, complemented by its Beautify Selfie mode.
Additionally, there’s System Management apps that help keep your device running smoothly.
The C5 keeps juiced by a 2,200mAh battery.
Neffos C5L
The Neffos C5L is an apologetically budget smartphone that’s equipped with a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480x854p) display. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor mated to 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage.
It’s a little heavy for its size, tipping the scales at 154g.
There’s microSD expansion and it supports 4G LTE with dual-SIM, dual-standby.
There’s an 8MP rear shooter with autofocus, and a 2MP selfie camera up front
The 2,000mAh onboard battery should give it juiced well over a day.
Pricing and availability
The Neffos C5 retails at MYR539 (incl. GST), while the C5L is priced at MYR359. Both are available exclusively at Lazada from 12 April onwards. The first 100 buyers will get a free TP-Link powerbank and screen protector.
