Sony Malaysia unleashed its new portfolio of imaging products in Malaysia, first showcased at the recently concluded IFA 2013 show in Berlin. Headlining the impressive line-up is the new NEX-5T interchangeable lens camera now with NFC; and the first-ever 4K camcorder – the new FDR-AX1 4K Handycam, amongst others. The launch was officiated by Sony Malaysia Managing Director Kikuo Okura and attended by key Sony Malaysia executives, Sony Camera brand ambassadors – Lisa Surihani and Zizan ‘Raja Lawak’ and hosted by Julie Woon.
Up next, NEX-5T
The new NEX-5T packs the famed DSLR-sized APS-C sensor with 16.1MP giving users richly detailed DSLR-quality stills and Full HD video, with incredibly low picture noise in low light situations. The new camera boasts Wi-Fi that lets you connect the camera to your smartphone, PC or TV to transfer photos and videos. It’s now the first interchangeable lens E-mount camera to feature NFC, enabling One-touch wireless connection with Android smartphones and tablets. With Embedded Smart Remote Control, you can remote trigger shutter release from your smartphone. The NEX-5T features Advanced Fast Hybrid AF that delivers speedy, accurate focusing on fast-moving subjects.
The NEX-5T will be available at end of September at RM2,299 (SRP).
Move over 2K
The new FDR-AX1 4K Handycam is the first 4K consumer camcorder – bringing cutting edge technology and imaging quality to budding filmmakers. The FDR-AX1 features a 1/2.3-type Exmor R CMOS sensor that captures true 4K resolution (3840×2160) images – four times the picture detail of Full HD. The image sensor is identical to those found in pro 4K camcorders, processing and finalising images in realtime at 60p. The new camcorder boasts Sony’s quality G Lens that is tuned to capture groundbreaking qualities of definition and colour. The lens offers a wide-angle to 20x optical (31.5-630mm 35mm equivalent) with Optical SteadyShot (OSS).

Shoot active
The new Action Cam HDR-AS30V is a wearable video camera that’s made for adventure. With built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, Live-View Remote and a slim waterproof housing, the Action Cam captures once-in-a-lifetime experiences in Full HD clips and high-res still photos (11.9MP). The Action Cam features a huge 170-degree filed of view (120-degrees with SteadyShot on), with a wide-angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens to boot. The camera boasts a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor that grabs plenty of light even on the dullest days. Music videos, made by you
The new HDR-MV1 Music Video Recorder is a handy pocketable device that lets you shoot and share every performance with studio-quality sound. The device captures Full HD video and uncompressed hi-fi stereo digital audio through its 120-degree X-Y stereo mic. The wide-angle 120-degree Carl Zeiss lens ensures high quality footage capture, plus the back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor grabs detail with extremely low noise. The HDR-MV1 features Wi-Fi and NFC for quick sharing to your Android devices.

Alpha-male E-mounters
A mirror less that looks, feels and performs like a full-fledged DSLR? Introducing the Alpha 3000 camera – a camera with interchangeable lens, a DSLR-like enclosure, electronic Tru-Finder (viewfinder), Multi Interface Shoe; and a massive DSLR-class 20.1MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor. Shoot videos at Full HD with a choice of 50i or 25p shooting modes. The new camera comes with the new Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS mid-range zoom lens with Optical SteadyShot.

Lens-style is the new style
Bound to kickstart a revolution in imaging, the Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10 lens-style cameras turn any Xperia, Android or iOS phone into a power-packed camera. The QX100 lens camera features a large 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS sensor with 20.2MP. It is teamed up with a wide-aperture Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens with 3.6x optical zoom with OSS. The QX10 on the other hand partners an 18.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor with a Sony G Lens, boasting 10x optical zoom and OSS. Both lenses have Wi-Fi and NFC built-in for easy connectivity with mobile devices.
The Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10 will be available in Malaysia from October 2013.
Unmentioned, but not forgotten
Sony Malaysia also showcased the DSC-RX100 Mark II camera, an update to the highly-talented point-and-shoot camera. The new RX100 Mark II now features built-in Wi-Fi, a new Multi Interface Shoe and tilting 3-inch LCD display. The camera boasts a new 20.2MP 1.0-type Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with Full HD 24p/25p video recording; coupled with a 3.6x, 28-100mm Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T zoom lens (f/1.8 at wide-angle setting).
Overall impressions
A very impressive and strong line-up from Sony as it breaks new ground with its new products. It is disappointing that not all products are available now, and not all pricing have been revealed. Nonetheless, the products should stream in before the holiday season, so perhaps drool and save up now?
