For pro photographers, durable, reliable, fast storage is crucial. They may fight against the elements to get the perfect shot, and data needs to be safe at all times when the card is removed from the camera. Well, Sony has devised the perfect solution. The imaging leader has introduced the SF-G series TOUGH specification UHS-11 SD card.
True to its moniker, SF-G series TOUGH is built tough. How tough? It has an ultra-rugged design that’s bend proof to 180N and is also drop proof to five metres.
It’s also waterproof with an IPX8 rating and dustproof with an IPX rating.
Sony says the SF-G series TOUGH range is 18 times stronger than regular SD cards. It’s the world’s first monolithic structure (one-piece moulding, no empty space in the card) and with high-grade hardness materials. Conventional SD cards are thin, consisting of a three-part ensemble.
It’s also the first rib-less SD card with no write protection switch. This ensures there’s no broken plastic casing, data protection lock and connector ribs as encountered on conventional SD cards.
The SF-G series TOUGH delivers the world’s fastest write speed of 299MB/s, minimising buffer clearing time and allowing the photographer (especially when armed with the a9) to shoot many frames per second. The card also supports V90, the highest standard of video speed class.
Read speed is also impressive, with scorching speeds of up to 300MB/s.
The SF-G series cards are also X-ray proof, magnet proof, anti-static, temperature proof and feature UV Guard.
