Samsung has added another device to its ever expanding portfolio, with the introduction of the Samsung GALAXY GRAND quattro — a 4.7-inch smartphone for the entry-level and mid-range market.

Powering the device is a quad core 1.2Ghz processor, assuring powerful performance, seamless multi-tasking and enhanced productivity. The GALAXY GRAND quattro comes built-in with 1GB RAM, 8GB of storage (upgradable to 64GB via microSD) and sports Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The 4.7-inch  WVGA TFT display is decently bright and crisp, although not any way close to the Super AMOLED Samsung is famous for. The large display however, should satisfy those who need more screen real estate.

The new smartphone weighs only 143.9gms and comes with a 2,000mAh battery.

The device comes with the usual connectivity options found on modern smartphones — Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and GPS.

A useful addition is the GALAXY GRAND quattro’s dual-SIM capability, useful for people with two numbers or frequent travellers.

The shooting prowess of the smartphone is enabled by a 5MP main camera, supported with functions like Continuous Shot, Colour Effect and Scene mode.

Some key enhancements to user experience include Motion UX, that enables users to command the phone by simply shaking it or turning it over. The phone also comes with a Easy Mode for the home screen and widgets, that allows streamlined access to most frequently used apps.

Yo, bro… any chance you’ll be reviewing Ubuntu Edge smartphone? If you got chance reviewing that, do let me know yea? I’m interested.

Ubuntu Edge? Looks interesting. Not sure who’s bringing them in to Malaysia. Will find out.

      • Elizabeth Toh

Yes, it is interesting, cuz the phone will be running on Ubuntu OS instead of the regular Andoid, Windows or even iOS. So I’m really looking forward to try. I heard it’s open for beta-testing, but den again, I got no contacts la…

        • Vernon Chan

Yeah it is interesting and would certainly appeal to the geeks out there, being truly open source. It’s not widely available yet, so may have to wait.

One geek here looking forward to it. Looking high and low to beta test the phone. 😛 but susah mau dapat la. So far the Canonical folks are just giving away to sys admins and programmers to beta test. 🙁 I’m an open source user myself… so yeah…really wanna try it out and see how it compares to phones with other OS.

You can grab an Edge from here –> http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge

Not exactly cheap and you won’t get one until 2014. You can however install developer version of Ubuntu Touch if you have a Nexus device (GALAXY Nexus, Nexus 4). I’m gonna try it out and see what happens 😀
