While the quad-cam Samsung Galaxy A9 may have stolen the show today, the Galaxy A7 is worth a mention too. The triple-camera mid-range smartphone will be open for pre-orders starting 16 October until 21 October 2018, at the price of MYR1,299.
The Galaxy A7 was launched late last month, and it’s Samsung’s first ever triple camera device. Aesthetically, it doesn’t look too different from its four-eyed sibling except you’ll notice the absence of the fingerprint scanner on the back.
That’s because Samsung, for some odd reason, decided to make a side-mounted hybrid fingerprint scanner-power button. This keeps the glass back clean, while instantly reminding me of the Sony Xperia Z’s similarly placed fingerprint scanner and power button.Build quality is pretty good, and overall the Galaxy A7 looks good. It’s offered in four colour options – Black, Blue, Pink and Gold.
As a refresher, the Galaxy A7 sports a 6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display (2220×1080) with a screen aspect ratio of 18.5:9. In case you were wondering, there is no notch. What a relief.
The device features a 3,300mAh battery that should keep it going for an entire day. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
Now that we’ve got the trivial things out of the way, let’s talk about the cameras. The Galaxy A7 is the first Samsung device to rock three cameras at the back. This consists of a 24MP f/1.7 main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide f/2.4 camera and a 5MP f/2.2 depth camera. It’s strikingly similar to the Galaxy A9 aside from the lack of a telephoto lens.
What’s interesting is the 8MP sensor that comes with a 13mm ultra-wide lens that has a 120-degree field of view.
The camera system boasts AI-powered Scene Optimizer, Pro Lighting Mode and also Flaw Detection.
