Research In Motion (RIM) Co-CEO Jim Balsillie today unveiled BlackBerry Tag, a new way to effortless share content between BlackBerry smartphones by way of ‘tapping’. BlackBerry Tag takes advantage of Near Field Communications (NFC) technology included in the recently launched slew of BlackBerry devices, and enables BB users to add one another via BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) by simply tapping their smartphones together. BlackBerry Tag supports transfers of contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content. Think “Bump” for iPhone and Android, only more far-reaching at OS level.
BlackBerry Tag will be incorporated in the next BlackBerry 7 OS update. RIM has announced that it has plans to release BlackBerry Tag APIs to developers to take advantage of the “tap to share” functionalities in applications.
Keep your eyes peeled, BB users. Tag me, tag me!
