redONE’s MYR8/month Data8 postpaid plan is best for the budget-conscious

Telcos are embroiled in an intense war of who-can-give-the-most-data-for-the-least-amount-of-money lately. The big four have been trying to outdo each other and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop any time soon. But let’s not forget there are real alternatives out there. There are MVNOs like TuneTalk, XOX Mobile and redONE to consider too.

While the telcos go crazy with throwing as much data and perks (some we don’t need) to customers, there are people out there who just want a basic plan. And the cheapest plan.

Well, here’s where redONE comes in.

redONE boasts the cheapest postpaid plan in the market. Its MYR8/month postpaid is unrivaled, offering the lowest commitment postpaid plan, bundled with other perks. Just so you know, MVNO rides on Celcom’s network.

Today, it announced its new Data8 plan, which costs MYR8/month bundled with 500MB data and free calls to redONE users. Free calls are limited to 100 hours/month. For calls outside of the network, the rate is 15sen/min while SMS is priced at 5sen/SMS to redONE numbers and 10sen/SMS to other networks.

If you find 500MB is too little data for your monthly use, you can buy unlimited data bundles. 1GB costs MYR20, 2GB for MYR30, 3GB for MYR40 and 5GB for MYR60 per month. It’s best to subscribe to a data bundle because if you exceed your monthly 500MB quota, you’ll be charged at Pay Per Use rate of MYR0.10/1000kb. In the event of PPU usage hitting 10GB, data speed will be reduced to 64kbps. Maximum charges for PPU usage is capped at MYR250, regardless of total additional usage.

Note that data speeds depend on the data bundle you purchase. For bundles below 2GB, you’ll be limited to HSPA speeds of 7.2Mbps. To enjoy full 4G LTE speeds, you’ll need to subscribe to at least 2GB (MYR30/month).

The Data8 postpaid plan has a contract commitment of six months. The cool thing about redONE is that it will allow customers who are blacklisted by other telcos to sign up. With the condition that they make upfront payment and deposit when registering, of course.

redONE also has other plans in its stable including MYR48/month and MYR88/month.

If you don’t need fancy perks and have a small appetite for data, then the redONE Data8 seems like a great basic plan. If you need data in upwards of 1GB per month, then you’ll be looking at spending MYR28/month.

If you are, you might want to consider U Mobile’s U28 plan (MYR28/month, 3GB data, free 50 mins calls to all networks, free 300 SMS.

You can sign up by applying online or visiting a redONE store.
