Samsung Galaxy S8

Fresh from its global launch, the stunning Samsung Galaxy S8 in all Infinite Display glory is coming to Malaysia. Malaysia has historically been “Tier 1” in terms of product availability for Samsung devices, and this time round it’s no different.

According to Lee Jui Siang, Samsung Malaysia Electronics Mobile and IT Business Unit vice president, at the Unpacked event in New York, pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will kick off 11 April.

He also went on to say that the Malaysian market will get three colour variants – Midnight Black, Orchid Gray and Maple Gold. For a start.

While no official prices were stated, the Galaxy S8 is estimated to hold a price tag of MYR3,099, while its bigger sibling will be MYR3,299. Based on the US price of USD720-750 and USD850 respectively, this might actually be an optimistic estimate, but we’ll know more, closer to the official local launch date.

General availability is said to be “very close to the global release date” of 21 April 2017.

As a quick recap, the new Galaxy S8 flagship series showcases a stunning bezel-less design and a 18.5:9 ratio Infinity Display. The Galaxy S8 boasts a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ display, while the Galaxy S8+ features a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ display.

Both share similar underpinnings – a powerful octa-core Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 9 processor based on 10nm manufacturing process; 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of storage.

They retain the outstanding 12MP f/1.7 Dual Pixel OIS main shooter, while uprating the front-facing camera to 8MP f/1.7.

Both are IP68 dust- and water-resistant and feature 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries respectively.

For the first time, Samsung is integrating a digital personal assistant called Bixby.
