Poco F2 Pro: Everything that matters

Poco F2 Pro

It’s been a long time coming. Two years to be exact since the revolutionary Pocophone F1 set the world ablaze. Underneath its cheap polycarbonate dress was beefy internals that put flagship devices to shame. And in true Poco (Xiaomi) style, it was offered at “honest” pricing.

Well, the wait is over. The successor to the Poco F1 is here—the Poco F2 Pro.

In essence, it’s a rebadged Redmi K30 Pro but that’s hardly a bad thing.

Pricing and availability

Poco is offering two memory configurations for its new flagship device—8GB RAM + 128GB of storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB of storage.

It comes in Neon Blue, Phantom White, Electric Purple, and Cyber Grey.

Pricing is as follows:

  • Poco F2 Pro – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage – EUR499 (~MYR2,349)
  • Poco F2 Pro – 8GB RAM + 256GB storage – EUR599 (~MYR2,820)

The device is available on Gearbest and Ali Express in select markets and it’s expected to hit online platforms such as Lazada, Amazon, and Shopee soon.

No news on Malaysian availability as yet but it will be soon based on this SIRIM listing.

Features and specs

Being a rebadged Redmi K30 Pro, it runs the same top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, mated to up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS3.1 storage.

The focus on performance doesn’t stop there, with Poco’s proprietary LiquidCool Technology helping to dissipate heat more effectively.

The phone comes with a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display boasting a 92.7 per cent screen-to-body ratio. Disappointingly, the display only offers a standard 60Hz refresh rate and not game-friendly 90Hz or better. That said, it’s still an impressive display, delivering 1200 nits of peak brightness and support for HDR10+.

In the camera department, the Poco F2 Pro adopts Redmi K30 Pro’s quad-camera system. This comprises the 64MP main camera with a large 1/1.7-inch Sony IMX686 sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5MP “telemacro” camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front is a 20MP selfie-camera.

The camera system can shoot 8K videos in 24 or 30fps, and 4K@60fps videos.

Another downside of the Poco F2 Pro is the lack of stereo speakers.

Fans should be happy with the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack, IR blaster, and NFC though.

It ticks other checkboxes including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It is also Poco’s first device with 5G support.

Keeping things juiced is a substantial 4700mAH battery that fast charges via USB-C. It supports 30W fast charging–taking just 63 minutes to go from zero to 100 per cent.

The Poco F2 Pro runs Poco Launcher 2.0 based on Android 10.
