Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (“P1”), Malaysia’s first and leading 4G telecommunications company with the country’s widest WiMAX coverage, is set to sign a memorandum of understanding with China Mobile later today, the world’s largest mobile operator, to spearhead the movement of TD-LTE (Long Term Evolution) in Malaysia and South East Asia.

YB Datuk Joseph Salang, Deputy Minister of Information, Communications and Culture Malaysia, His Excellency Chen Dehai, Charge D’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, senior representatives from China Mobile and P1 will be present at the signing ceremony.

P1 4G represents the first large-scale commercial 4G WiMAX deployment in Southeast Asia, and the first large-scale deployment of an 802.16e 2.3GHz WiMAX network outside Korea.

China Mobile has a customer base of 584 million and is ranked number 38 in Forbes “World’s 2000 Biggest Public Companies”. It has a market share of about 70% in Mainland China with operating revenue of RMB485b (as of December 2010).
