OPPO Find X2: Everything that matters

OPPO Find X2 Pro

The Find X was easily the most exciting phone to come out in 2018; marking the return of OPPO into the big league. It was a four-year hiatus, mind you, after the range-topping Find 7. While the China smartphone maker has built a reputation around selfie-centric mass market phones, the Find X showed the world that OPPO, too, could build a show-stopping, ground-breaking device. Well, it’s been two years. It’s time OPPO finds its way back to the top again. Today, OPPO launched the new Find X2 series—the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro.

Key features & specs

Both the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processsor couple with 12GB of LPDDR5 memory. The Find X2 is bundled with 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage while the Pro gets 512GB.

On the front is a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED display (3168×1440 @ 551ppi) which has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It’s an impressive display with 100 percent of DCI-P3 colour gamut, 1,200-nit peak brightness (average 800 nits) and a contrast ratio of 5,000,00:1.

Optics-wise, the Find X2 Pro features a triple-camera system consisting of a 48MP (custom Sony IMX689, 1/1.43-inch, 1.12-ultra pixel) wide-angle-camera, 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera and 13MP telephoto camera. What’s interesting is that the telephoto camera features a periscope lens design (like on the Reno, only better). This gives it an improved 10X hybrid zoom and up to 60X maximum zoom.

Meanwhile, the Find X2 gets a slightly weaker triple-camera setup comprising a 48MP sensor (older Sony IMX586 sensor), 12MP ultra-wide-camera and 13MP telephoto camera. The 13MP telephoto shooter however, does not feature the periscope lens design like its Pro sibling. Hence, it’s capable of only 20X maximum zoom and 5X hybrid zoom.

On the front, there’s a tiny punch hole at the top of the display that houses the 32MP selfie shooter.

You may be wondering what happened to the fancy ground-breaking motorised retractable camera found on the Find X? I’m saddened to say that OPPO has dropped this design and have adopted a more conventional approach. It does seem like a step back.

On the brighter side of things, the Find X2 Pro comes with IP68 dust- and water-resistance, the brand’s first model to have this feature. However, this feature is absent on the regular Find X2.

There are nominal differences between the two models in terms of battery capacity—the Find X2 Pro has a 4,260mAh cell while the Find X2 carries a 4,200mAh unit. Both devices support 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash Charge, which OPPO claims can fully charge the device in just 38 minutes.

In terms of connectivity, both devices support 5G standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) standards, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.1.
