MSI Malaysia has launched the latest Vortex G25 gaming console that packs plenty of power but has a footprint no larger than a average notebook.
MSI chose the launch of its largest store in Malaysia at Low Yat Plaza as the platform to reveal its new compact gaming PC–the Vortex G25. The new store will also be the hub to host game events as well as game training for hardcore game enthusiasts.
Why the name G25? Well, the “G” of course, stands for gaming whereas the weight of the console as well as the volume is rated at 2.5kg and 2.5 litres respectively. Makes sense?
So, what do you get with this all-new console? For starters, you get the 8th Gen Core processor which is based on the Z370 platform. It comes with a Core i7-8700 processor which features 6 cores/12 Thread computing, as well as a turbo mode which can propel the performance from 3.2GHz all the way to 4.3GHz, otherwise known as Multi Core.
For internal cooling, the G25 comes with the Cooler Boost Titan and it features dual Whirlwind Blade fans with eight heatpipes as well as well-endowed airflows for both the CPU and GPU.
The GPU in the G25 is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070, 8GB GDDR5 for the G25 8RE variant and the G25 8RD variant comes with a GeForce GTX 1060, 6GB GDDR5 or 3GDDR5 configurations. In comparison, this enhances over 40% of the performance compared to the last generation.
The console also makes do with smart screws. Basically, these screws have slotted rings along the side with the aim of opening the console with ease. This also means that using a traditional screwdriver is no longer needed.
Once unscrewed, users can then upgrade their NVMe M.2 SSD by PCIe Gen3 or SATA-SSD combo slots, one 2.5″ Hard Drive and dual DDR4-2400 slots.
The G25 is also optimized for VR. It comes with a power jack which activates the VR headsets and HDMI as well as two USB 3.0 ports for added convenience.
The MSI VR Ready button and Nahimic VR helps to provide both optimized performance and virtual surround sound effect for a heightened VR experience.
As for audio, the G25 comes with an improved ESS SABRE HiFi audio DAC, and that makes the G25 one of the certified gaming systems under Hi-Res Audio. This means that the console has a sampling rate of 24bit/192KHz and supports any high-end headsets through the SABRE HiFi DAC.
