At a special product showcase at Shout Lounge, Empire Hotel, Kuala Lumpur today, Motorola Mobility unraveled its flagship Motorola RAZR MAXX smartphone. Motorola also previewed the mid-range dual-core Motorola RAZR V which is expected to come in Q3, 2012.

RAZR MAXX – Motorola’s flagship
The new Motorola RAZR MAXX looks unsurprisingly similar to the super-sleek, Kevlar fiber encased Motorola RAZR it replaces, except that it is slightly thicker at the back due to its enormous 3,300mAh battery. Yes, you read it right. 3,300mAh in its ultra-thin form factor, just 8.99mm thin to be exact. Quite an engineering feat to be able to pack such a huge amount of juice.
The battery gives you 17.6 hours of talk time with over 25 days of standby time. Incredible.
Utilising a splash-guard coating, the external and internals of the RAZR MAXX is protected, and water-resistant. There is a growing trend of water and dust resistant phones coming into the market.
Powering the device is a 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor and a generous 1GB RAM. Not quite industry-leading, but Motorola is not banking on technical specs to drive this flagship device to hands of consumers. Storage is 16GB, expandable to up to 32GB via microSD.
It sports a bright and crisp 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with an update to Ice Cream Sandwich on the way soon. For shutter fans, an 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash is bundled together with a HD-capable 1.3MP front-facing camera.
Motorola RAZR MAXX will be available starting 21 June at selected retailers across Malaysia for a recommended retail price of RM1,688. Motorola RAZR V will be made available in Q3 of 2012.
RAZR V – Younger sibling, no less specs
The Motorola RAZR V, strangely is quite similarly specced to the bigger RAZR MAXX and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It also features a Kevlar fiber back (in a V formation no less) and sports a 4.3-inch ColorBoost display with Gorilla Glass. It’s also powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash and a front-facing VGA camera.
Battery-wise, the RAZR V packs an impressive 1750mAh. Like its bigger sibling, the RAZR V is also features a splash-guard coating which makes it scratch and water-resistant.
The 8.35mm thin device will be available in Rebel Pink, Glacier White and Charcoal, and is expected to be in the Malaysian market some time Q3 2012. No pricing is currently available but I won’t be surprised if it is priced within the RM1,100-RM1,300 range.
