Moto’s new entry-level e series get big displays and big batteries

Together with its new premium mid-range g series, Motorola also unveiled its affordable e series. Like the g series, it also gains a more immersive 18:9 display, a big battery and Android Oreo out-of-the-box.

First up is the moto e5 plus – offering a large 6-inch HD+ Max Vison display (1440×720) with a 18:9 screen aspect ratio. The massive 5,000mAh battery keeps its going for 1.5 days. The cool thing is despite it being a entry-level series, it supports moto’s 15W TurboPower rapid charging via its micro-USB port.

Powering the device is a Snapdragon 425 processor, mated to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (expandable via microSD).

Camera-wise, the e5 plus gets a decent single 12MP f/2.0 main shooter with PDAF, while the fron is an 8MP f/2.2 selfie camera.

The moto e5 plus’ design is signature Motorola, with smooth rounded corners and a reflective wave pattern back.

The device has a fingerprint sensor on the rear, located within the iconic Motorola logo.

The moto e5 plus will head to Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America in the coming months, and retails at EUR169 (MYR811). It comes in Back, Flash gray, Mineral blue and Fine Gold colour options.

Moto e5

The moto e5 is the smaller sibling of the moto e5 plus, rocking a 5.7-inch HD+ Max Vison display (1440×720) and featuring the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC. It gets a basic 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, although you can expand it further via microSD (up to 128GB).

It also gets plenty of juice through its large 4,000mAh battery that charges up via micro-USB. The dual-SIM device comes with a 10W Rapid Charger that quickly charges up when you’re running low.

In terms of optics, the e5 gets a 13MP f/2.0 main camera with LED flash and PDAF. Meanwhile, on the front it features a 5MP selfie camera with front-facing flash.

The e5 retails for EUR149 and will be rolling out in various countries in Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America in the coming months. Colour options include Flash gray and Fine Gold.

Moto e5 play

The most accessible in the series, the moto e5 play packs a 5.2-inch HD (1280×720) display and is powered by a Snapdragon 425/427 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Storage expansion is possible via microSD.

The device packs a large 2,800mAh that ensures all-day battery life, and can be charged up quickly with a supplied 10W Rapid Charger.

It comes with an 8MP f/2.0 camera with an LED flash on the back, and a 5MP selfie camera with selfie light.

The moto e5 play is available in Black, Dark lake and Flash gray.

No pricing for the device is available for now, but it is expected to roll out in North America over the coming months.
