Turning down a chance to meet one of the most prominent and not to mention stunning female professional Cosplayers deserves a field trip to the shooting range for execution. Twice. A sane man would never turn down any remote opportunity to meet a gorgeous woman, especially one that brings characters to life from the comic strips, right into the Malaysian Games and Comics Convention 2012 (MGCCon).

Dear avid Cosplayers, presenting the ever gorgeous Alodia Gosiengfiao (Alodia) as the Femme Fatale of The Avengers, Black Widow. Here’s a brief interview I got while I was at MGCCon 2012.
Now, since our killer is here, it is wise to ask questions related to Cosplay. Questions that come to mind include her experiences, advice for beginners and challenges, this spontaneously conjured in between being mesmerized by her beauty…drenched in blood.
Ziwen: Hi Alodia, for those who have been living under a rock, give us a brief introduction of yourself.
Alodia: My name is Alodia Gosiengfiao. Born in Philippines and I have been cosplaying for almost 9 years since high school.
Ziwen: Is this your first time in Malaysia? How do you find Malaysia?
Alodia: This is my second time in Malaysia actually. I have not been to Kuala Lumpur yet because I just arrived yesterday from the Philippines (have not visited any tourist spot yet). The weather in Malaysia is more or less the same too. The food in Malaysia is nice.
Ziwen: Glad to hear that an assassin finds our country pleasing. So, you mentioned that you have 9-years of experience in Cosplaying, What were the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a cosplayer?
Alodia: I would say the most difficult are the props. Sometimes, you will need to find people to create the props from scratch. Difficult props that require a lot of handcrafting skills are the hardest. Another challenge is getting into character. Cosplaying is all about how well you can portray the character. We will need to understand the character’s behavior, it is equally important as dressing up to be the character.
Of course, as a professional Cosplayer, there are chances that you will get hurt in the process of Cosplaying as well.
Ziwen: Wow, that’s a lot to worry about. What is your advice to beginners? Well, to be more specific, what are the values that beginners need to look out for becoming a professional Cosplayer like you?
Alodia: I would say you will need a lot of passion in Cosplaying. Cosplaying involves practice, time, cost and effort. For me, it’s a profession. You will require a lot of passion and tons of hardwork.
Ziwen: Any other ways for them to improve?
Alodia: Hmm…not really. I would say the only way to improve in Cosplay is through trial and error. You will never know whether the characters suit you before cosplaying them. The only way to know is to make mistakes and learn from the process.
Ziwen: Cosplay fans will be delighted for the helpful advice and to see you appearing in Malaysia. Are there any future plans on returning to Malaysia?
Alodia: None, for the moment. However, I might plan to be joining Anime Fest Asia or CF (Comic Fiesta), I hope I can have a chance to visit those events if I have the time.
Ziwen: It has been a wonderful interview with you, thank you very much for your time and for sharing your experiences as a professional Cosplayer.
Alodia: Welcome, thank you too.
