Mercedes-Benz AMG E63S 4Matic+

If you’re looking for a German business-orientated sedan but want more punch than the common 2.0L lumps? Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) may have the answer for you. Get your cheque books ready. Or American Express card.

The Car

MBM has just launched the all-new Mercedes-Benz E63S AMG 4Matic+ here in Malaysia. Yes, quite long title. Well, that’s the entry level model mind you, but there’s also a special Edition 1 model for power crazy fanatics. So, how much do these German babies cost? The E63S is just shy of the seven digits. At MYR998,888, it’s priced slightly lower than the Edition 1, which you can drive home for a cool MYR1,088,888.

Figures

So, for that amount of money, what do you get? For starters, the new E63S comes with a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing a staggering 612bhp and 850Nm of torque. All of that power is channeled through an AMG specific AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed sports transmission (DCT) that sends power to all four wheels via the AMG Performance 4Matic+ AWD system.

The E63S does the century sprint in just 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h (limited).

The Drive

The E63S comes with an AMG Dynamic Drive Select programme that offers 4+1 driving modes (Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual + Race). The latter is meant for track use and should be used responsibly (ahem). What it does is it switches the car’s AWD system into a pure rear-wheel drive car (I can see you grinning).

That means doing tail happy drifts is possible for those of you who love to burn rubber, sideways. Also, the Racestart feature which is essentially a launch control that has been revised resulting in easier use. The E63S also comes equipped with AMG Sport Suspension, AMG sports steering and also an electronically controlled rear differential lock.

Exterior

Style-wise, it differs to the regular W213 E-Class variants by a snowstorm. An aggressive front bumper and wider wheel arches (27mm wider) help make the E63S stand out from the rest of the E-Class models.

The E63S is fitted with 20-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels. To help make the E63S stand out in the rear, a lip spoiler as well as a diffuser style rear apron are added.

Interior

Stepping inside, the cabin is highlighted by a flat-bottomed steering wheel as well as heavily bolstered front seats. Interior trim is highlighted with a trapezium-grain element, whilst an IWC-designed clock rests on the centre console. When it comes to standard kit, the E63S comes with an AMG instrument cluster which combines two monitors that displays multifunctional information.

“Edition 1” Limited-run

To help heighten the looks of the E63S more, the limited-run model comes in a shade of the Designo matte black exterior with matte finished wheels as well. Inside, Nappa leather upholstery, an AMG Performance steering wheel as well as Designo labeling on the armrests, centre console and carpets.
