Maybank Championship 2017 is more than about golf

Maybank Championship 2017

Hosted at the fairways of Saujana Golf and Country Club, the Maybank Championship 2017 promised “Golf Like Never Before” and it delivered that in droves. Held from 9-12 February, this year’s event saw a world-class line-up of players including reigning champion Danny Willet and former Masters winner Charl Schwartzel. But, it wasn’t all about putting, birdies and such.

Maybank was dead serious with its theme. Sure, golf took centrestage, however, the event served a host of other activities including yoga class and boot camp sessions; and even culinary delights from Michelin Star Chef Anton Mosimann.

While world-class golfers tackled one of the toughest courses in the world, the event also served a slew of tech-enhanced and digital-first bespoke experiences.

In its aspirations in being ASEAN’s digital bank of choice, Maybank has backed some homegrown startups from various verticals. Some of these startups showcased their innovations at the Championship, giving golfers and visitors a taste of technologies of the future.

Amongst some of the innovations showcased include VR Lab’s virtual reality installation; Suncrox Solar’s solar-powered mobile charging stations at the public village; a context-based notifications platform developed by VAV Apps; and Credit Mavin – a mobile app that keeps track of your spending across all payment channels.
