After kicking off pre-orders last week, Maxis opened its doors to customers at midnight to officially offer the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in-store. Separate lines were opened for customers who had pre-ordered, as well as to serve walk-ins at the Maxis Centre KLCC. As you know, Maxis also offers a 24 Hour Express Delivery or Express Pickup service. Tonight as part of the Maxis Express delivery program, I joined a special mission with Dushyan Vaithiayanathan, Maxis head of consumer business to deliver one of the first iPhone 6s devices to a customer. The lucky customer happened to be renowned young Malaysian fashion designer Joe Chia.
27-year old, Kelantan-born Joe Chia is a proudly-Malaysian fashion designer who has collaborated with international brands like Shue Uemura, Honda, Chivas, Sony, Reebok and G-Shock. Two years ago, he designed a range of limited edition tees for Uniqlo. At Malaysia Fashion Week last year, he was named “Asia’s Most Influential Designer.”
Chia’s minimalist, edgy style has brought him across the world to Singapore, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo, Milan and Moscow.
The talented designer was genuinely surprised when Dushyan came knocking on his office door (Chia and his team were still hard at work, at midnight) as he didn’t expect a midnight delivery for his iPhone 6s order.
As a gesture of appreciation, Chia presented Dushyan with a jacket, from his yet-to-be-released collection.
I’ll be bringing you some behind-the-scenes footage from the special delivery. Stay tuned.
Chia’s iPhone 6s is one of 301 midnight deliveries fulfilled by Maxis tonight. Over 1,000 orders would be shipped within 24 hours from midnight of the 16 October. There’s 20 hours remaining, and the Maxis team has already made 50% of the deliveries (as of 3:20AM).
Emulating last year, Maxis promises to deliver your iPhone to you anywhere, within 24 hours.
The iPhone 6s retails from RM1,990 with a MaxisONE plan 128 on a 24-month contract. iValue plans still exist, with phone prices starting from RM2,460 on a RM100/month plan. For full plan and options, visit this page.
