After introducing the excellent Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus to Malaysia recently, Xiaomi is also bringing the lower spec 2GB RAM + 32GB storage variant of the Redmi 5, and high-spec Redmi 5 Plus with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. The two additions are expected to debut this Friday, 23 February 2018, as teased by Mi Malaysia.
Budget-conscious consumers can look forward to an uber affordable full-screen display smartphone with the Redmi 5 low-spec version. For obvious reasons, Xiaomi has not revealed official pricing yet, but as a rough indication, the device goes for CNY799/MYR491 in China.
On the other hand, the high-spec Redmi 5 Plus will satisfy those who want better specs and have a slightly larger wallet. The 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version is similar to the just-announced Redmi 5 Note in India. It retails for CNY1,299/MYR798.
As a refresher, the Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD (1440×720) 18:9 display, while the Redmi 5 Plus packs a 5.99-inch FHD+ (2160×1080) 18:9 display. Both look great with all-rounded corners and features the reliable Snapdragon 625 chipset.
Both devices feature a single 12MP rear camera sporting large 1.25um pixel sensors, while the front is served by a 5MP unit with a selfie light.
The Redmi 5 packs a 3,30mAh battery while the Redmi 5 Plus does away with a larger 4,000mAh unit.
The Redmi 5 (3GB + 32GB storage) and Redmi 5 Plus (3GB + 32GB storage) are offered in Black, Gold and Blue for MYR679 and MYR749 respectively.
Stay tuned for the new low-spec Redmi 5 and high-spec Redmi 5 Plus this Friday.
