Korean electronics giant, LG Electronics (“LG”), officially announced the local availability of its flagship premium 4G LTE smartphone — the Optimus G Pro. LG also introduced the Pocket Photo smart mobile printer, soon to be available in Malaysia.
LG Electronics Malaysia, General Manager, Marketing Department, Joanna Foo graced the launch and addressed the media at LG’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
The New Flagship
The LG Optimus G Pro is LG’s new flagship smartphone with a massive 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display, co-developed with LG Display, delivering an impressive 1920×1080 pixels resolution at 400ppi. In the heart of the Optimus G Pro is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, a quad core CPU running at 1.7Ghz. Bundled with 2GB RAM and storage options of 16GB (expandable up to 64GB via microSD), the flagship looks to compete head-on with the highly successful Samsung GALAXY Note II.
The device runs Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and is LTE-equipped. In fact, it was recently named the Best LTE Device/Handset at the LTE World Summit 2013. The award reflects the Optimus G Pro’s superior LTE capabilities, consumer-centric features, intuitiveness and elegant design.
The LG Optimus G Pro was also one of 27 LG 2013 products to be recognised by the prestigious red dot design awards for its industrial design. The sleek and slim device measures 150.2 x 76 x 9.4mm and features a textured back panel inspired by the Nexus 4.
LG has included a top-of-the-line 13MP main shooter and a HD-capable 2.1MP front shooter as standard.
The device also comes with a removable 3,140mAh battery, that should ensure at least a full day of use.
The device isn’t all just about superior hardware however. LG has packed some advanced UX features developed specifically for the new flagship — Smart Video, Dual Recording, Virtual Reality (VR) Panorama and Pause and Resume Recording.
Smart Video uses advanced eye-tracking technology to detect user eye movement when viewing videos. When a user looks away from the screen, the video is automatically paused. Sound familiar?
Dual Recording allows a unique picture-in-picture experience, utilising both the front and rear cameras simultaneously.
VR Panorama is a interesting feature that allows for shooting full 360-degree panoramic views. The auto-stitches footage to produce a seamless VR view.
Pause and Resume Recording feature allows the recording of short snippets of video which then combines into a single video file. Think of it like HTC’s Zoe mode.
The LG Optimus G Pro is available in two colours — Indigo Black and Lunar White and is available at all LG retail stores and authorised dealers. The LG Optimus G Pro retails at RM1,888 (SRP).
Memories on the Go with Pocket Photo
LG also introduced its latest smart device innovation — The LG Pocket Photo that delivers high quality photo prints wirelessly through Bluetooth or Near Field Communication (NFC). The printer is compatible with Android and iOS devices.
The stylish portable printer is one of the smallest and lightest mobile photo printing devices in the market, measuring just 72 x 120 x 24mm and weighing just 215mm.
The printer uses inkless printing technology from ZINK, eliminating the need for expensive ink catridges. ZINK is a technology that utilises heat to activate colour-forming chemistry within the ZINK 2.0 paper.
The LG Pocket Photo will be available by the end of July 2013 at a retail price of RM399 (SRP).
