[Leaked] Official iPhone 5 Promo Video

Official iPhone 5 Promo Video

Ok, this is interesting. A purportedly leaked iPhone 5 promo video surfaced on YouTube and social networks, dated two days ago. The seemingly legit video details much of the speculated specifications and features of the new generation iPhone from Apple. Watch video after the jump.

Lasting two minutes and 25 seconds long, the mostly 3D-rendered video reveals some interesting details, some not known or seen previously.

The new iPhone is a unibody construction which is 9mm taller and 22 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S. The longer form factor encases a 4″ 16:9 widescreen Retina Display (640 x 1136 pixels at 326ppi), a 18 percent larger screen than previously.

While facts point to a non-LTE model, codenamed N42, the video shows the inclusion of LTE.

The video also details the inclusion of Apple’s next generation A6 processor, 1GB RAM and 32/64/128GB storage options. Strangely enough, there is no mention of the main camera, while a 720p front FaceTime camera is shown.

The all-new 9-pin Mini Dock connector as seen in leaked specs and images all over is 50 percent smaller and will support fast USB 3.0 transfer.

The new iPhone 5 will use an Apple-designed 4FF nano-SIM card, which is 40 percent smaller than micro-SIM card.

iPhone 5 Fingerprint Scan

What’s interesting is a never-before-seen “Fingerprint scan to unlock” function, built into Home button – hybrid fingerprint matching with on-chip encryption.

iPhone 5 Mission Control

Some iOS enhancements were also shown including Mission Control (two finger swipe gesture to reveal panel) and new UI for Calendar/Contacts.

The video is incredibly detailed and does have a very legit Apple feel to it, but some missing elements and over-dependence of 3D rendering makes it less convincing. Regardless, some of the added enhancements are interesting.

    It looks fake.

Even if it didn’t look as fake as it does, if anyone ever did put up a real Apple video before the launch, Apple would have it taken down seconds later. The fact that this is still on YouTube adds to the video’s lack of authenticity.

I guess you are right. Apple legal would have jumped on it immediately. I still think the author would be handed a ‘cease and desist’ pretty soon though.

It looks nice, but I don’t think it’s legitimate. The reader is correct. Apple wouldn’t brag about the sim card. They also wouldn’t show it going into a very large sim tray. It’s also too long for an Apple commercial. It’d be cool if it had the fingerprint scan, though.

    • Vernon Chan

I think you are right about the length of the video, altho Apple does do longer intro videos with testimonials from key execs.

Good but some things apple doesn’t do, like brag about the sim card

    • Vernon Chan

I totally agree with the sim card bit.
