The phablet market may be saturated, but this hasn’t stopped Huawei from innovating in this segment. At the MWC 2015, the China tech giant unveiled its latest phablet — the Huawei MediaPad X2, the world’s first 64-bit ultra octa-core 4G LTE-enabled dual-SIM tablet. The 7-inch tablet houses a Ultra HD IPS screen and measures just 7.28mm thick.

The MediaPad X2 is the second generation MediaPad, inheriting the signature large screen design of its predecessor.

The new phablet focuses on five classic applications — call quality, social media apps, online shopping, video and camera features.

Huawei’s commitment to quality and user experience is seen in the build quality of the new phablet, reminiscent of the excellent Huawei Ascend Mate 7. At 7.28mm thin, the MediaPad X2 is officially the world’s slimmest 7-inch phablet. It weighs 239g.

The aviation aluminum metal texture exudes class and a business-like outlook. The compact borderless screen design offers a screen-to-body ratio of 80% which makes for easy one-handed operation.

The MediaPad X2 sports a fully-laminated 7-inch Ultra 1200×1920 HD IPS display pushing 323PPI and delivering up to a 178-degree viewing angle. The LTPS HD touch display provides crisp and dynamic visuals while CABC technology adjusts screen brightness automatically for optimum battery management.

Powering the device is Huawei’s own 2GHz Kirin 930 ultra-core chipset, a 64-bit eight-core CPU of the A53. The Kirin 930 chipset features integrated 4G LTE Cat6 with data download speeds of 300Mbps. Multimedia performance is handled by a 64-bit Mali-T628 GPU and i3 micro-core.

In terms of audio, a Smart PA chip with DTS Surround Sound ensures cinematic sound quality for video and movie lovers.

Despite its ultra thin body, the MediaPad X2 packs a 5,000mAh Li-Polymer battery, the largest capacity in the industry. Battery life is claimed to be 12 hours for online video streaming, 15 hours of internet surfing or 60 hours of music playing via headphones.

The Huawei MediaPad X2 gets a 13MP rear camera, similar to the Ascend Mate 7. If the camera on the Mate 7 is any indication, you should get some pretty impressive images, even in low light. Up front is a 5MP with a f/2.4 aperture lens which has a wide angle of 22mm. Perfect for selfies.

The phablet also sports a 2.4G dual-WiFi antenna design. Dual-SIM, dual standby and dual 4G networks ensures you’re always on wherever you are.

It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with Huawei Emotion UI 3.0 on top.

Pricing and availability
