Huawei, world number three smartphone vendor (IDC, 2013), made it clear that Malaysia’s on its mind with the unveiling of the latest Honor 3C smartphone, the first country in South East Asia to get the device. Additionally, lucky Malaysians also get Vmall.my – Huawei’s official online store, the only Huawei online store outside of China. Win.

The Honor 3C is a well-spec-ed mid-range Android-powered smartphone, packing a 1.3Ghz quad-core processor from MediaTek (MT6582), generous 2GB RAM, a super bright 5-inch LTPS HD display and a Sony-sourced 8MP rear camera. The feature-packed device runs Android 4.2.2 out-of-the-box, supports dual-SIM and 3G/HSPA.

The Honor 3C has enjoyed sizzling demand in China, garnering 10 million pre-orders before its official launch in December.

Gracing the big launch was Jeff Liu, President of Honor Business Unit, Consumer Business Group, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd; Wei Kwok Seing, Co-Founder and Director of Lelong.my; Gary Xu, Country Director of Consumer Business Group, Huawei Technologies Malaysia and Allan An, Director of ECommerce Sales, Consumer Business Group, Huawei Technologies Malaysia.

Last week, Huawei kicked off a “Guess the Price” contest on its Facebook page where it invited users to guess the final price of the Honor 3C. 100 units of Honor 3C devices were up for grabs. Based on the US pricing of US$160, many (including us) had expected the retail price to be RM599.

Huawei, however, had other ideas. As revealed the final price during the launch proper, it left mouths agape and mutterings of “wow!” from the crowd. The Honor 3C is officially priced at RM499. Earth shattering indeed.

Proving that cheap can be good, the Honor 3C is generously spec-ed, including the 2GB RAM, dual-SIM support and impressive 8MP rear camera, and 5MP front camera. The device is also compact and well put together with changeable backplates for customisation.

The 8MP Sony-made camera is much-touted, packing a back-illuminated sensor (BSI) coupled with Huawei’s own digital image enhancement software called IMAGESmart.

The Honor 3C runs 30% more efficiently than its predecessor with “Smart Power”, its power management technology. Huawei’s enhanced Emotional UI 2.0 sits atop Android 4.2.2.

The introduction of the Honor 3C also coincides with the official launch of Vmall.my, Huawei’s new e-commerce platform, exclusively for Malaysians. The 24/7 online store is set to complement the planned 100 physical concept stores to be opened throughout Malaysia this year.

Vmall.my commits to deliver orders with 3 to 5 working days. Huawei is also working with Lelong.my and Lazada.my to increase customer reach online.
