HP Print Apps: Adding a new spin to printing

HP Print Apps

HP Deskjet

When it comes to printing, the brand HP needs little introduction. I personally am no stranger to HP printers, as I currently have three HP printers in the office and two at home; and over the years even more. So if you think this is going to be a biased post on HP printers, you’re most probably right. Because, well, they’re good.

In this era of connectivity and increasingly mobile lifestyle, people tend to print less and less. We snap 20MP photos with our smartphones, we read ebooks on our tablets, we redeem digital coupons, we scan barcodes to watch movies and so much more.

That being said, printing isn’t dead. In fact, far from it. People still print their office documents and presentations, their photos, spreadsheets, recipes, notes and more. There’s still beauty in the tactility of paper. There is still a place for a physical book, magazine and 4R print.

So this is where I think HP has done it right with its portfolio of web connected printers. Catering to the new connected lifestyle, yet not discarding the old entirely.

HP e-Print Center

HP Connected, HP’s all-in-one printing device and services platform gets your HP printer connected and made available online. You’ll be able to also easily manage your printer settings, check ink levels, access your print history and even order original HP Ink.

Like the Deskjet 4515 I personally own, HP’s portfolio of connected printers integrate wireless and web connectivity to enable remote printing from the web, mobile or network.

What’s outstandingly cool though is HP Printables – a collection of fantastic free content that is delivered right to your printer. HP Printables include a wide range of free content – from Dreamworks (say hello to Shrek and Kungfu Panda), Angry Birds, recipes, Sudoku, colouring books, puzzles, news, comics, even paper plane templates!

While you can access these printables via the web, you can also get them via your printer directly, sans your PC.

Here are a couple of my favourites Print Apps:

HP Connected

Having tested HP Printables I have to say the service is user-friendly and impressed with the growing collection of rich content being made available for the platform. It does put fun back into printing and the added convenience of PC-less printing is a huge plus.

HP Printables puts a new spin into web-connected printers and printing as a whole and this is a key differentiator for HP against other brands.
