Groupon Malaysia recently hosted a special Groupon Lenses workshop which saw 60 budding photographers learn from local professional photographers Kid Chan, Steven Goh and Heart Patrick.
The Groupon Lenses initiative is the first in a series of community engagement activities planned by Groupon Malaysia. The first-ever Groupon Lenses workshop was supported by Canon.
The workshop aimed to provide budding photographers with a fun yet insightful session on photography. Two of the workshop’s key speakers – Kid Chan and Steven Goh are well-known, in-demand wedding photographers. The final guest speaker of the day, Heart Patrick, is a specialist in travel-photojournalism.
What is important in every image is capturing emotion and culture, elements far more important and challenging to achieve than mere technical skills alone.
The workshop proceeded with practical session facilitated by Groupon Malaysia’s own photographers, Ethan Ong and Ivy Tan, who tested the skills of the participants. Ivy demonstrated steps in making food look good – to showcase roles of lighting, set and angles in food photography.
Ethan gave practical lessons on still-life photography using only a wine bottle, wine glass and rustic background made from a rugged cloth as props.
Mr. Rafiq Razali, Country General Manager of Groupon Malaysia, said, “Groupon Malaysia is always on the lookout to explore more opportunities for young people and this is part of our initiative to continue giving back to the society.”
