I’m taking a break from tech to bring you something from the automotive world. OK, not completely unrelated to tech altogether, to be fair. Grass Racing Autosports, aka GRA has partnered with Motor Bahn (‘MB’) to launch a new racing simulator experience called RACEXP. RACEXP is Malaysia’s first ever licensed simulator racing experience happening at Paradigm Mall from 3-8 November 2015.
RACEXP did a preliminary race for Mazda at the recent Mazda Mega Carnival Roadshow at Mazda’s Glenmarie showroom. The Top 10 fastest drivers from the carnival would subsequently race during the RACEXP race proper in Paradigm Mall.
RACEXP will adopt the world’s leading racing simulator – RaceRoom. If you haven’t experienced RaceRoom (available free-to-play on Steam), then you’ve been missing out on real driving dynamics – from driver’s inputs from the race car, track, handling, audio and more.
All tracks, drivers, race series and sponsors in the game are licensed in the real world. This includes WTCC, DTM & ADAC GT Master series.
RACEXP is supported by Mazda, the Official Car for the event. Backing sponsors include Alienware, Red Line Oil, Whiteline, FK Massimo, IT Hyperstore, OWS Asia, SUPERCIRCUIT Exhaust Pro Shop, PG Perma Glass, Optimo by Automotive Synergy, Gophers Technologies, Ghee Hiang, The Sauce Project, Kuwahara BMX, Heritage Village, Red Bull and U.S. Polo. ASSN.
The RACEXP format starts from 3-8 November 2015 at the Upper Atrium, Level UG at Paradigm Mall from 1000hrs to 2200hrs.
The event is open to public, with a participation fee of RM30 per try. Attempt to get within the Top 100 fastest qualifiers in the Time Attack Challenge that will run from 3-7 November 2015.
The Top 100 Qualifiers will then move on to the Semi Finals Race where it will be wheel-to-wheel racing.
The Top 10 drivers will move to the Final Race which takes place on Sunday, 8 November 2015. One driver will be crowned Malaysia’s First RACEXP Champion 2015. Could this be you?
In addition to the race, there will be 10 brand partner booths with attractive offers on products as well as a showcase of Mazda’s latest Mazda2 Sports hot hatch on Ground Floor at the G Entrance.
GRA is the longest standing grassroots national-level autocross series, established in 2005. Founded by ex-rally champion Ian Khong and wife Jian Nin, the GRA Championships has since grown from strength to strength – with a typical three to five rounds of competition in a calendar year.
With separate classes for novices and pro drivers including special categories for auto transmission vehicles, GRA promises fun, thrills and fierce competition.
I participated in my first GRA in 2005 and last being in 2007. It’s a series I support simply because of the people behind it, and how it’s focused on making motorsports affordable, safe and fun.
See you at RACEXP then? It can’t get more fun and safe than behind a simulator 🙂
