Senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today that interstate travel will be allowed between 7 May to 10 May 2020. This follows the closure of registration via the Gerak Malaysia app yesterday.
The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) said they had received 500,000 applications for interstate travel. Registrations came to a close on 1 May 2020.
As part of phase four of the Movement Control Order (MCO), the government relaxed travel restrictions, allowing specifically city folk who have been stranded in their hometowns before the MCO came into effect, to return home. Affected people can apply for approval via the Gerak Malaysia app.
The police will prepare a time schedule for travel and this will be announced soon.
As most economic sectors and businesses activities are set to resume come 4 May, the government urges private companies to not take action against workers who do not turn up to work. This is because they will need to comply with the travel schedule drawn up by the police.
Likewise, for the public sector, civil servants do not have to rush back for Monday and can return to work once they’ve return from their hometowns based on the stipulated travel schedule.
