This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) promised to be an all-Smart TV, all-smartphone, all-tablet totting affair, and from the looks of day one, it has certainly lived up to that expectation. As promised, Toshiba unveiled the Toshiba Excite, its 10-inch Androidtablet offering. Super thin, light and sleek, this is a far cry from the wedge that was the Toshiba Thrive.

The Toshiba Excite is only 0.3-inch thick, besting the iPad 2 by 0.04 inches; and weighs in at a scant 1.2 pounds (iPad 2 weighs 1.35 pounds). Impossibly light? Possibly. The 10-inch featherweight features a magnesium alloy back, Gorilla Glass up front and unique trims. The 10.1-inch screen supports 1280 x 800 resolution and runs a dual core 1.2Ghz processor with 1GB RAM.

The Excite packs two cameras – 5MP on the rear, and 2MP on the front for web conferencing and those self camwhoring moments.

Despite its anorexic dimensions, the Exite sports an impressive selection of inputs and outputs – microSD, micro-USB, micro-HDMI and 3.5mm audio jack.

Although built to support Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Toshiba has yet to announce if the tablet will feature ICS or Honeycomb. What is known though is that it will be a pure Google Android experience, without any sort of UI flavor on top.

Pricing is yet unreleased but the Excite is expected to be in the vicinity of $499 and $599 for base configurations. The Toshiba Excite is expected to ship sometime early this year.
