Celcom today announced its 5G Live Cluster Field Trial, the first in Malaysia. The live integrated cluster field trial covers a 1.22sq km area in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
At the press event, Celcom said that the 5G Live Integrated Cluster Field Trial co-exists with its 4G LTE network. The objective of the trial is to provide a live 5G test bed for third parties to incubate and test new 5G applications and use cases.
The test will cover PJ Seksyen 14, Menara Celcom, Crystal Crown Hotel, MBPJ Tower and Taman Jaya LRT. It is expected to cover 450 households, 130 shop lots, offices and outdoor spaces, reaching an estimated population of 4,627.
At its own Menara Celcom, the telco will deploy a MIMO 64T6R network running at 3.5GHz with 100Mhz of bandwidth for indoor coverage. There will also be five outdoor sites on 4T4R 28GHz with 800MHz of bandwidth. These networks are connected by high-speed fibre and 10Gbps E-Band microwave.
During a live demo at the event, a speed of 6Gbps was achieved on a notebook PC. On a 5G-enabled OPPO Reno 10x Zoom, the network on C-band hit download speeds of 1.2Gbps (Ookla’s Speedtest).
Celcom revealed that the 5G Live Cluster Filed trial will run for six months. It add that it will conduct user trials with MBPJ (Petaling Jaya Municipal Council) as well as residents and business owners located within coverage areas.
