BlackBerry KEYOne sneaks into Malaysian retail channels

BlackBerry KEYone

The BlackBerry KEYOne is significant in a couple of ways. Firstly, BlackBerry isn’t dead. The KEYOne incidentally, is the last smartphone to be designed officially by BlackBerry. From this instance forward, design and production will be solely in TCL Communication’s court. The good news is, we’re seeing the first trickling of KEYOne in retail channels in Malaysia.

If you’re a BlackBerry fan and have been waiting for this device, then get your wallets ready because it’s here.

The latest ‘Berry is once again distributed by Brightstar, the same people who brought you the PRIV, DTEK50 and DTEK60 in Malaysia. The KEYOne retails at MYR2,688.

You’ll be able to get your hands on the device via several channels.

Firstly, DirectD is offering the KEYOne at MYR2,688 and throwing in a JBL T450BT Bluetooth headset as a bundle. This offer is expected to kick in some time this week.

Aside from that, the KEYOne was also spotted on 11Street, where it is being sold by retailer Gadget Village and T-Mobile (not to be confused with US telco). Gadget Village is offering the KEYOne at a MYR89 discount for pre-orders, while T-Mobile is pricing the device at MYR2,634.24.

Over in Lazada, retailer Gtronics Communication is selling the KEYOne lock-stock-and-barrel at its official retail price of MYR2,688. Sorry, no special offers or bundles here. The retailer says you can pre-order now, but stocks will come in early June 2017.

Launched at MWC 2017, the BlackBerry KEYOne is an Android-powered device with a physical keyboard. The candy-bar form factor houses a 4.5-inch Full HD IPS display, with a premium aluminium chassis and soft textured back.

Under the hood, it gets a upper mid-range 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core chip mated to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.
