With each iteration and interpretation of the Batman franchise, there’s always a signature Batmobile that goes along with it. Whether its Nolan or Burton in the director’s chair, Batman’s ride is always cool and always unique. For the upcoming Justice League movie though, the Dark Night is ditching the Batmobile for a civilian three-point star ride.
You heard that right. In the upcoming Justice League movie, German carmaker Mercedes-Benz is supplying the sleek four-wheelers as part of its partnership with the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Mercedes-Benz recently released new behind-the-scenes videos and photos about their involvement with the new DC Comics flick.
The cars included in the upcoming movie are the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, driven by Bruce Wayne aka Ben Affleck; a Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet, driven by Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot); and also a cameo of the Mercedes Benz G-Class 4×4².
Director Jack Snyder first saw the AMG Vision Grand Turismo, a electronic remotely-controlled concept car, in the Gran Turismo 6 game. Because Ben Affleck has a 6’4″ frame, Mercedes had to increase the size of the car by 10% when they decided to build it for the film.
Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman also gets a sexy Merc, though hers is more understated and chic. “Do I get to keep the car, once we’re done with it?” asked Gadot jokingly (I think) in the behind-the-scenes featurette, referring to her Mercedes Benz E-Class Cabriolet protoype.
Just a recap, the Mercedes Benz AMG Gran Turismo was unveiled back in 2013, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It is now the latest replacement to the aging Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, otherwise known as the Mercedes Benz AMG GT.
Buy a Merc?
In Malaysia, the AMG GT S is priced at MYR1,145,888 and is powered by a 4.0L biturbo V8 engine that delivers a whopping 510bhp and 650Nm of torque. It’s mated to an AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission which sends power to all four wheels.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to buy the one-off Mercedes Benz E-Class Cabriolet (Convertible). You can however, opt for the E-Class Coupe with two trim-lines on sale from just under MYR436,000 for the E200 AMG Line and E300 AMG Line for just under MYR535,000.
Both models get a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with either 184bhp/300Nm for the E200 and 245bhp/370Nm for the E300. Both are paired with a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels.
Coming to cinemas near you
Aside from the cars and social media activations, Mercedes Benz will also upload a series of exclusive digital comic stories on its Instagram channels on 20 October 2017. All of which are developed in corporation with DC’s Custom Creative Studio.
The Justice League movie will be released on 16 November, this year. Other than Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, the movie will also star Henry Cavill as Superman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Ciaran Hands as Steppenwolf and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.
Justice League isn’t the only movie Mercedes is getting its hands into. The upcoming Mercedes Benz CLS-Class will be featured in the upcoming James Bond movie and the soon to be released AMG GT Sedan will be featured in the next Jason Bourne movie.
Overall, Mercedes’ marketing campaigns seem to be moving in the right direction. Can’t wait to see more cool collabos in the future.
