In one fail swoop, Acer has successfully taken the big gaming boys head-on, and impressively so, too. With its maiden gaming notebook – Acer Aspire V Nitro (VN-591G) – Black Edition, the Taiwanese maker is bringing top notch gaming performance to the budget-conscious. This is its entry-level model, mind you, and from first impressions, the Aspire V Nitro may just be what casual gamers and enthusiasts need on their desks.
At the product launch at Invasion Cyber Zone, Kuala Lumpur, members of the media had the opportunity to put the new gaming notebooks to the test, together with the pro Invasion e-Sports team.
The new Aspire V Nitro sports a sleek design and a stunning slim profile, with a textured cover made with soft touch NIL (Nano Imprint Lithography) technology.
The 15.6-inch IPS display offers Full HD resolution for an immersive, vibrant visual experience.
The full keyboard is spacious and backlit with red LEDs for gaming under low-light environments. A pleasant addition, especially at the price point it is being offered at.
The Aspire V Nitro is powered by the latest desktop variant of the latest generation Intel Core processor (up to i7) and NVIDIA GeForce GTX discrete graphics. Expect powerful compute performance and outstanding gaming performance.
The gaming notebook comes with built-in gigabit ethernet, and for those who do it wirelessly, you’ll be chuffed to know that the Aspire V Nitro comes with two antennas – 2×2 wireless antenna technology that processes data twice as fast as traditional antennas. The 2×2 setup forms a multi-input/multi-putput (MIMO) for better throughput and reliability.
Another useful technology is Acer’s own DustDefender – an intelligent dust-removal design that uses the notebook’s high-speed metal fan to help remove internal build-up of dust.
Heat is a detriment to a PC’s performance, and thus the notebook comes with CoolBoost technology. Turbo Mode can be manually activated to enable faster fan speed to lower CPU/GPU temperatures.
Audio is an essential aspect in gaming and the Aspire V Nitro comes built-in with a four speaker set-up enhanced by Dolby Digital Plus Home Theatre.

First impressions
Having tested the Aspire V Nitro first hand, I come out mighty impressed with the performance and build. Sure it isn’t built like a tank as an Alienware 17 or as sexy as a Razer Edge, but the Aspire V Nitro delivers bountiful of performance and should satisfy gamers of all levels.
At under RM3,500, this notebook is the ultimate bang for buck for those wanting top notch gaming performance but need the extra cash for that Steam sale.
And if you’re not a hardcore gamer, or prefer the less adrenaline-rushed activities, the Aspire V Nitro is great as a general purpose notebook too.
When I asked Acer if there will be a hardcore, top-of-the-line version coming up, Acer said, “yes, if there is demand.” Well, gaming folks, let’s make them release one, shall we?
Nicely done, Acer.
