30Mbps internet is so yesterday. Isn’t it TIME for 500Mbps?

TIME 500Mbps home fibre broadband

Some might say Malaysians are an unlucky not. We have considerably slower internet speeds on both cellular and fibre compared to some of our neighbours. We only have to look as far as Singapore to feel completely demoralised. While they enjoy 1Gbps, we’re trudging along at 30Mbps (the natural average is 5Mbps, apparently). To make matters worse, we actually pay more too.

But wait, there’s hope yet. The darkhorse, TIME Broadband, has just revamped their entire fibre broadband range.

Current users subscribed to their older packages have been automatically upgraded without additional charges.

Time 500Mbps fibre
From 8Mbps to 100Mbps. No charge. Whoa.

What in the blazes?

What’s more, it now offers a whopping 500Mbps connection, for just MYR299/month. Smack in the middle is 300Mbps for MYR189/month and the base offering is now 100Mbps for just MYR149/month.

500Mbps TIME Home Fibre Broadband

You’ll be chuffed to note that the 500Mbps is symmetrical, so you’re getting 500Mbps for both downloads and uploads.

Slow clap

This blows away both TM Unifi and Maxis Home Fibre Broadband offerings by a mile. If you need call facilities, then just pay-as-you-use at 9 sen/min for all fixed and mobile numbers nationwide, or 8 sen/min for IDD calls. You can also opt for MYR10/month for 2,000 mins, also based on the aforementioned call rate.

To compare, TM Unifi has 30Mbps and 50Mbps packages for MYR179 (promo) and MYR229 (promo) respectively. Unifi, of course, bundles a HyppTV subscription and also offers unlimited downloads. Its speeds however, are assymetrical, so uploads are slower (10Mbps and 20Mbps).

Meanwhile, Maxis offers 10Mbps, 20Mbps and 30Mbps for MYR148, MYR198 and MYR248 respectively. It offers MYR30 free calls credit, and unlimited downloads. Also, if you’re a MaxisONE subscriber, you can shave off MYR20 from your fibre broadband bill.

TIME’s new offering essentially makes it the fastest home broadband package in the country.

500Mbps NOW

There are two downsides though. Firstly, TIME doesn’t exactly have the coverage of either TM or Maxis, so while it quotes 250,000 connected homes, it not far-reaching.

Number two: What are you going to do with 500Mbps?

While you ponder, your neighbour’s going to whizz by you on his 500Mbps connection. Do you want to continue thinking or do you want mind-blowingly fast internet?

For me, it’s a no-brainer. If you’re within TIME’s coverage, do yourself a favour, and just sign up.

Isn’t it TIME to get on the fast lane?
