2020 Honda Accord gets turbocharged 1.5L VTEC

2020 Honda Accord

The all-new 2020 Honda Accord is set to debut in Malaysia soon and the premium executive sedan is open for booking at all 100 Honda dealerships nationwide. The 10th Generation Accord, for the first time for a Japanese automaker in the D-segment, will sport a 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged engine.

Since its debut in 1976, the Accord has risen to fame globally for its premium appeal and styling. In Malaysia specifically, the premium sedan has sold more than 84,100 units to date since its arrival on these shores in 2001. Continuing to raise the standards of the D-segment, the 9th Generation Accord secured its top market position in 2013 as it sold in excess of 32,500 units. Following that in 2017, Honda introduced the Next Generation Advanced Safety feature—Honda Sensing in the 9th Generation Accord, further raising the stakes of premium features in its class.

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Toichi Ishiyama said, “The much-anticipated All-New Accord is set to move the yardstick for next-generation sedans with its unmatched performance, stylish and premium design as well as cutting-edge technology and safety features.”

“More notably, the 10th Generation Accord is now equipped with an enhanced Turbocharged engine, which places Honda as the only Japanese mass-market manufacturer to introduce the powerful engine in D-segment. We are confident that the All-New Accord will bring immense excitement to the market, especially those who seek a sedan with a complete premium package,” he added.

The headline feature of the 2020 Accord is the new, enhanced 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged engine, a first for the flagship model. Power output tops 198bhp (201PS) and maximum torque is 260Nm. What’s interesting is that it’s the same mill that you will find on the Civic and CR-V, except that power output and torque have been bumped up.

They say there’s no replacement for displacement, but guess what? This new turbocharged lump offers better performance than the 2.4-litre engine in the previous generation Accord. With Malaysia’s displacement-based road tax structure, this will sit well with the local folks.

The 10th Gen Accord continues to feature a fastback design and now comes with sharper LED headlights and taillights. It now has a wider, more aggressive disposition with a lower hood as well as lower and longer roofline. That aside, it sports a Twin Tailpipe Chrome Finisher and a set of unique 18-inch alloy wheels with a resonator.

Like its predecessor, the new Accord comes with a full suite of Honda Sensing safety technology including Driver Cruising Aid: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Low Speed Follow (LSF), Auto High-Beam (AHB); Frontal Collision Deterrence: Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS); and Side Collision Deterrence: Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

Additionally, the vehicle packs Smart Parking Assist System with Brake Assist (Rear), Multi View Camera System (360-degree camera) and Honda LaneWatch for drivers’ convenience and safety. All variants will come with standard safety features such as six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), front and rear parking sensors together with a multi-angle rearview camera.

The All-New Accord is now open for booking at all 100 Honda dealerships nationwide. For more information, call Honda Toll Free 1-800-88-2020, or visit www.honda.com.my.
