HMD Global will be playing its biggest card yet since the return of the Nokia brand. The much-rumoured Nokia 8 flagship device is set to be officially unveiled at a global 16th August event.
August is traditionally a month with big phone launches, and the Nokia 8 will join the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note8, Apple’s iPhone 7s, 7s Plus and iPhone 8; Google’s Pixel 2 and possibly the Huawei Mate 10.
Nokia, in its comeback, has teased us with the nostalgic Nokia 3310 remake; and a slew of cheap and cheerful Android devices–the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3. All four devices are already available in some markets, including Malaysia.
One of Nokia’s unique selling propositions is the use of pure Android in its devices. This promises a lag-free and bloatware-free experience, as well as timely security patches and feature updates.
HMD Global has assured that its devices will receive Android O promptly, once the release is made available by Google. The big O release is slated for a Q3 2017 release and may hit Nokia devices, including the Nokia 8 before Christmas.
As a flagship, the Nokia 8 will come with some snazzy hardware including a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 chip with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and single- or dual-SIM options.
The device will see the return of the renowned Carl Zeiss name with a dual-camera 13MP setup. On the front, a 13MP camera with wide-angle lens will ensure some sexy-looking selfies.
It will pack a 5.3-inch QHD display and may come in three colour variants including copper gold, blue and silver.
The HMD Global event will happen in London on 16 August at 2.30PM ET / 11.30AM PT. Malaysians can catch it at 2.30AM MYT.
