New Glass M100

New Glass

Last year, Lenovo launched its internet-based business platform New Business Development (NBD) as part of its Internet of Things (IoT) strategy. For a start, NBD focuses on three product categories aimed at the Chinese market — smart glass, smart air purifier and smart wireless router.

I had the opportunity to get a hands-on experience with the M100 “New Glass” smart glass device, powered by a 1Ghz dual-core processor and running Android 4.0 KitKat. It’s loaded with a Chinese-language OS and understands voice commands (in Mandarin, naturally).

The device boasts an 8MP camera and an external 1300mAh battery that gives you a full day of battery life.

Unlike other smart glass devices like Google Glass, New Glass does not include a spectacle frame. It can be clipped to users’ glasses, so you don’t have to adapt to an unfamiliar frame. The module responds to swipes and gestures.

New Glass is targeted at industry users in machinery, logistics and medical markets.

The M100 is priced at RMB8,000 (US$1,298) and only available in China. Boo.
