Samsung sure knows how to throw a party. To usher in its all-new Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018), Samsung threw a poolside party to remember, along with synchronised swimmers and colourful floats. It was the perfect environment to showcase the new A Series’ dust and water-resistance, as well as dual-front cameras.
The Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) are Samsung’s first devices to feature dual front cameras for bokehlicious selfies. The 16MP + 8MP f/1.9 dual front camera lets you take close-ups, and portrait shots with blurred backgrounds. The devices’ Live Focus feature lets you adjust the level of bokeh before or after you take a selfie.
The rear camera, on the other hand, isn’t shabby either – a 16MP f/1.7 camera with video digital image stabilisation (vDIS). The fast lens is great for low-light conditions and also a great all-rounder whatever the environment. It even comes with Food Mode, to deliver mouth-watering Instagram-ready food pictures.

One outstanding feature is of course, IP68 dust- and water-resistance. This means the A8 and A8+ will withstand sweat, rain, water, sand and dust. This added durability is rarely found in this price segment, reserved for flagship devices.
The Galaxy A8 (2018) boasts a 5.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED (1080×2220) display, while its bigger sibling features a 6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED (1080×2220) display.
Both pack an Exynos 7885 octa-core processor underneath, with the A8 bundled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The A8+ on the other hand, packs 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
The A8 comes with a 3,000mAh battery while the A8+’s is rated at 3,500mAh. Both support fast charging via USB Type-C.
In terms of connectivity, the A8 series ticks all the necessary boxes including 4G LTE Cat.11, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, NFC and MST (supports Samsung Pay).
The new device series also includes Bixby support out-of-the-box and supports storage expansion via SD card slot.
The A8 (2018) series runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat right off the bat.
