The new Honda Jazz (in Sport Hybrid guise) has made its “global debut” in Malaysia. The new hatchback was previewed at Carlist’s Drive Test & Buy Event 2017 at Setia Alam Convention Centre over the weekend.
It’s technically the first officially public showing of the popular B segment vehicle in the world. The new Jazz is set to launch in Japan in June.
Malaysia is the first country outside of Japan to receive the new Jazz, with deliveries to begin from August.
As mentioned in an earlier post, the new Jazz will be available in two variants – Petrol and Sport Hybrid.
The model previewed at the event was the Sport Hybrid variant.
The Sport Hybrid features Honda’s Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive (i-DCD) Hybrid System. The system combines the 1.5L i-VTEC engine with a powerful electric motor and high-capacity lithium-ion battery. This is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
Together, the system outputs an impressive 137PS/135bhp.
On the other hand, the petrol variant uses a familiar 1.5L i-VTEC four-cylinder lump that pushes 120PS/118bhp at 6,000rpm and 145Nm at 4,600rpm. This is coupled with an Earth Dreams CVT gearbox.
The new Jazz gets a new chrome front grille, new front and rear bumpers, LED daytime running lights, and dual-tone alloy wheels.
Smart Entry and Push Start Buttons come as standard.
In terms of safety, equipment levels on the Jazz continue to be class-leading.
Brake Assist (BA), Anti-Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) comes as standard (likely to be on the higher S and V variants). Additionally, there’s also six airbags and ISO Fix.
