BlackBerry Malaysia sent us a media invite last week for an ‘exciting announcement’ this Tuesday, 24 June 2014. While we exercised some arm-twisting, they still refused to budge on details leading up to the event (yes ‘off record’). However, we did get a ‘smiley’ and a ‘hahahah’ for what we’re speculating – which could literally mean anything from “yes”, “no”, “maybe” or downright “you’re so wrong but thank you for speculating.”
Z3 is cometh
We know that the Canadian maker has released the Z3, aptly named “Jakarta” for the Indonesian market. The 5-inch all-touch device with a qHD display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 is the first official model to roll-out of the Foxconn factory. The entry-level device runs BlackBerry 10 OS, targeted at the value smartphone market, retailing at IDR 2,199,000 (US$184 / RM593).
While originally meant for Indonesia, BlackBerry recently announced the availability of the Z3 in India, another important emerging market for BlackBerry. The Z3 is widely believed to be announced at a launch event in New Delhi, set for 25 June.
We strongly believe that the Z3 will also be announced for Malaysia this Tuesday.
