Shell Helix has teamed up with Waze to launch Asia’s first accident-prone spots alerts. During the Ramadhan and Aidilfitri, Waze users will get a special alert from Shell Helix to remind you to be extra vigilant when you approach accident spots around Peninsula Malaysia.
Based on recent data from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research, there were 521,466 reported road crashes in 2016, resulting in 7,152 deaths. This is out of the 27.6 million vehicles on the road. Majority of accidents are caused by human factors.
As you know festive seasons are peak travel periods, and time and time again we hear of traffic accidents and road fatalities.
So, from 16 May till 15 July 2017, you’ll get a special alert on Waze when you approach any of the 50 accident-prone spots across Peninsula Malaysia. The messages are displayed on when the car is completely stationary, to avoid distracting the driver.
According to Waze, locations were identified based on crowdsourced historical accident data from Waze users. Aside from harnessing big data analytics, the alerts also use Waze’s advertisement placement feature.
Shell Malaysia has been synonymous with safety, and has embarked on various road safety initiatives throughout its 125-year presence in Malaysia.
The collaboration with the most popular social traffic and navigation app is in line with its commitment in taking road safety to the next level.
Balik kampung offer
Aside from alerts and reminders to keep drivers safe, Shell Helix will be running a special oil change promotion for Waze users and members of the public. All they need to do is watch Shell’s Aidilfitri video on Facebook or YouTube. The video reminds car owners to service their cars before their “balik kampung” journeys.
Shell Helix will flash a unique promo code on the Waze app, and users will get to enjoy MYR30 off their oil change service at participating Shell Helix branded workshops and Shell retail station Lubebay service outlets.
