You’ve seen the regular Mercedes Benz  E-Class and the crazy E63s AMG. Think of those two as Jekyll and Hyde. But now, there’s a new addition in town. A plug-in hybrid variant of the executive sedan dubbed the E350 e available in several trims: Exclusive Line, AMG Line and the Edition 60. The latter being a limited edition with only 60 units on sale in Malaysia.

Now, we talk about power. The E350 e on all trims is powered by the same 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 208bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine is paired to an electric motor which produces an additional 87bhp and 440Nm of torque. With the engine and electric motor combined, the E350e produces a total of 281bhp and 550Nm of torque.

The numbers are able to propel the E350e from 0-100kmph in just 6.2 seconds. The full EV mode has a range of just 33km. The battery would have to sit somewhere in order to get a full EV mode. So, the battery resides in the boot which results in a smaller boot space from 540 litres to just 400.

The E350 e has three drive modes. The earlier stated E-Mode (EV), E-Save and Charge.

In terms of exterior looks, it looks almost identical to the regular E-Class saloons. The only giveaways are the blue brake calipers, hybrid badges and the charging port located on the rear bumper. Step inside and the look and feel remains the same except for a different set of displays that shows the battery level and energy consumption.

When it comes to features, it’s identical to the rest of the range. So, standard kit includes Multibeam LED headlights which feature Adaptive Highbeam Plus, keyless entry and start, a tri-zone climate control dubbed Thermotronic, Nappa leather, and powered front seats with memory function and lumbar support. It also gets a reverse camera which has a 360 degree surround view, panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting with 64 different colour settings, Active Park Assist and a powered bootlid with a handsfree function.

Also included is a COMAND Online infotainment system, Widescreen Cockpit layout with two 12.3-inch displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Qi wireless charging pad as well as a 13-speaker Burmester sound system. The only thing that the E350 e lacks is a head-up display (HUD). So all similarities aside, the differences between the three variants are its aesthetics.
