What does a horticulturist, utility engineer, administrative officer, IT technician and a 4×4 enthusiast, modder cum sea diver have in common? It’s the Malaysia Global Ford Ranger Challenge.

Horticulturist Zolkaplie Mustafa, utility engineer Peter Charles, administrative officer Denny Lim, IT technician Wong Kok Wei, as well as 4×4 modifier, enthusiast and sea diver Peter Choy were selected from 300 entries to put the All-New Ford Ranger through their own ‘ultimate challenge’.

The Grand Prize winner of the Global Ford Ranger Challenge will be the proud owner of an All-New Ford Ranger XLT 2.2L (manual transmission). The first runner-up will receive RM9,888 in cash and a voucher worth RM10,000 to purchase the All-New Ford Ranger while the second runner up will receive RM3,888 in cash and a voucher worth RM5,000 to purchase the All-New Ford Ranger. All three winners will also receive Global Ford Ranger Challenge merchandise.

Below are the challenges submitted by the participants:

  • Zolkaplie the ‘Saviour of The Jungle’ will take the All-New Ford Ranger on a mission to trap and relocate wild animals from Putrajaya to the Hulu Langat forest reserve.
  • Peter Charles the ‘Power Loader of Pitas’ will test the truck on a 30 km off-road journey, carrying a 700 kg load of palm oil from his village in Pitas to a collection centre in Paitan.
  • Denny Lim the ‘Sarawakian Terrain Warrior’ will go on a 5-hour traversing expedition from Betong, Kuching to Kampung Tuba.
  • Wong Kok Wei the ‘Planet Earth’s New Hero’ will transport and relocate various trees from his nursery to be planted at a specific location while manoeuvring in tight spots through an urban jungle.
  • Peter Choy the ‘Ultimate Explorer’ will be on an excursion to a remote Orang Asli settlement in Pos Piah, Perak, which can only be reached with a 4×4 vehicle.

Ford’s film crew accompanied the selected participants in their excursions to put the All-New Ford Ranger through the toughest tests they can imagine and have posted up their final videos in the official website – www.fordrangerchallenge.com.my and the Ford Malaysia Facebook page – www.facebook.com/FordRangerMY. Non-participants and the public may log on to view the videos and vote for their favourite challenge. Voters stand to win Casio G-Shock watches worth RM759 and other limited edition Ford merchandise.

The Global Ford Ranger Challenge is a unique, worldwide experiential marketing campaign that has been making its way around the globe. It was launched in Malaysia in February in the lead up to the launch of the All-New Ford Ranger. To participate, Malaysia drivers were invited to submit an application explaining why their unique challenge is the best way to test the All-New Ford Ranger’s capabilities.

How the Global Ranger Challenge Voting and Judging Works

Footage of each Malaysian finalist’s Challenge has been uploaded on the official Malaysian Global Ford Ranger Challenge website – www.fordrangerchallenge.com.my – for viewing and online voting on 22 May 2012. Voting ends at midnight on 22 June 2012.

Voting can also be accessed via the Ford Malaysia Facebook page – www.facebook.com/FordRangerMY

By clicking on the “View & Vote” tab, the Malaysian public will be able to register and select their favourite challenge.

Every 50th voter will be selected to answer a simple tie breaker question. The five most creative answers will be entitled to win a special edition Casio G-Shock watch while the rest of the selected voters will each win exclusive Ford merchandise, while stocks last. Notification will be via phone calls and emails.

The winners of the Global Ford Ranger Challenge will be determined after all votes have been tabulated and the final decision from the judges. The Grand Prize winner will be announced at the launch event of the All-New Ranger in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Lim, who entered with ‘the Sarawakian Terrain Warrior’, wants to test the 4×4 in a 5-hour traversing expedition from Betong, Kuching to Kampung Tuba, which will include off-roading, river crossing and climbing over hills and mountains.

For Wong’s ultimate challenge, the ‘Planet Earth’s New Hero’ will transport and relocate various trees from his nursery to be planted at a specific location while manoeuvring in tight spots through an urban jungle. Last but not least, Choy, the Ultimate Explorer, intends to challenge the All-New Ford Ranger’s toughness in an excursion to a remote Orang Asli settlement in Pos Piah, Perak, which can only be reached with a 4×4 vehicle.
