The much-anticipated Windows 10 launch on 29 July is set to be a massive global celebration. The milestone upgrade to the world’s most used operating system will see joint efforts with thousands of retailers including Microsoft‘s own retail stores and a new global advertising campaign. A new year-long initiative to celebrate people and organisations who are making a difference around the world, called Upgrade Your World will also happen.
For the first time ever, Microsoft is making Windows 10 available as a free upgrade. Windows 10 is claimed to deliver a fast and familiar Windows experience, as well as conveniently stays up-to-date automatically. Featuring new innovations on the desktop including Cortana, Microsoft Edge, Xbox integration, Microsoft calls Windows 10, “the best Windows ever.”
Five million Windows Insiders and fans have played an instrumental role in the development of Windows 10. To celebrate the role of these important people, special event in 13 cities around the globe including Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi, Dubai, Nairobi, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid, London, Sao Paulo and New York City. There’ll be hands-on opportunities, experiential demos, entertainment and opportunities to meet and greet the Windows team.
Expectedly, there’s going to be a huge marketing blitz behind the Windows 10 launch as 1 billion devices around the globe prepare to upgrade. Beginning 20 July in the US and 29 July globally, the first wave of TV and digital ads will be aired.
“Upgrade Your World” is a year-long initiative to celebrate those who inspire and empower others, led by Microsoft’s vision to help people achieve more through technology.
Microsoft has partnered with 10 global and 100 local nonprofits to help them ‘upgrade the world.’ A total US$10 million cash investment will be made in support of their missions and to drive awareness.
Among the participating global nonprofits are CARE, Code.org, Keep a Child Alive, Malala Fund, Pencils of Promise, Save the Children, Special Olympics, The Global Poverty Project, and the Nature Conservancy. Starting on 29 July, you get to choose the 10th nonprofit to support. Vote for the next “Upgrade Your World” initiative at windows.com/upgradeyourworld.
Other countries aren’t forgotten of course. Starting September, Microsoft is crowdsourcing nominations for 10 nonprofits in each of the following countries: Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, the UK and US. 100 local winners will each receive cash investments to support their cause to ‘upgrade the world.’
In addition, tens of thousands of Microsoft employees around the world will participate in the initiative by taking a day off to volunteer to upgrade their community, in celebration of the Windows 10 launch.
