WD has introduced the My Passport Pro, the first portable Thunderbolt-powered dual-drive solution, aimed at creative professionals and enthusiasts on the Mac platform. My Passport Pro offers RAID functionality without the need for power adapters or extra cables.

Available in 2TB and 4TB configurations, My Passport Pro is directly powered via the integrated Thunderbolt cable, a design unique to WD, offering I/O speed of up to 233MB/s. That’s faster than some SATA3 internal drive speeds!

Another key feature of the dual-drive solution is its user-selectable RAID function, which lets users between RAID 0 for high performance or RAID 1 for data redundancy.

Developed by Intel, Thunderbolt is superior to both FireWire 800 and USB 3.0. The bus-powered technology is a boon for creative professionals, thanks to its outstanding sustained transfer speeds – making task like video manipulation quick and easy. A 22GB HD video file can be copied in half the time it would typically take with USB 3.0 working in RAID 0 format.

To ensure durability and protection, My Passport Pro is housed in a sleek aluminum enclosure, thoroughly shock-tested for reliability on the go.

Pricing and availability

My Passport Pro is available now at select retailers and is distributed by Amble Action Sdn Bhd and Eternal Asia Sdn Bhd in Malaysia.

The My Passport Pro 2TB retails at RM999 and the 4TB is priced at RM1,399.
