Never one to stand still, U Mobile, the telco that introduced unlimited “Onz” products, is back with a couple of crazy plans. Aptly named “Giler Unlimited,” the plans – both postpaid and prepaid offer users unlimited data from just MYR30 per month. Confirm sure, you ask? Read on.
What exactly is Giler Unlimited? Affordable and unrestricted. Whether you opt for the postpaid GX50 or prepaid GX30 plan, you’ll be able to enjoy unlimited data for music and videos, social messaging and social networks, mobile games, and more. Completely worry-free.
There’s no weekend and weekday data. Data limited by age, and all that nonsense.
Here’s a breakdown of the plans.
GX50 Postpaid Plan
Let’s start with the postpaid GX50 plan. For MYR50 per month, you’ll get unlimited data for all apps, unlimited calls (all networks) and 5GB of free hotspot data. SMS texts are also pay per use, charged at a rate of 10sen per SMS.
GX30 Prepaid Plan
The prepaid GX30 on the other hand will set you back just MYR30 per month and you’ll enjoy unlimited data as well as 3GB of free hotspot data. That comes down to just MYR1 per day. Note that calls are charged on a pay-as-you-use basis, charged at 18sen per 30sec block. Likewise, SMS texts are also pay per use, charged at a rate of 10sen per SMS.
Sounds good, where’s the catch?
Here are couple of important things to note. Both plans offer unrestricted access to all your apps with no additional charges.
For the GX50 plan, internet speed is limited to up to 5Mbps. Meanwhile, the GX30 plan is limited to up to 3Mbps. Both plans’ unlimited video and music streaming is limited to standard definition only.
When the allocated hotspot data is depleted, data speeds will be managed at 64Kbps.
Getting started
A new starter pack costs MYR8.50 and it comes preloaded with MYR6 of credit and 300MB of high-speed data, valid for a week.
To subscribe to the GX30 prepaid plan, you can do it via the MyUmobile app, UMB by dialing 1181*1# or SMS by sending ON GX30 to 28118.
Validity of the plan is a standard 30 days.
Initial thoughts
The new Giler Unlimited plans look suited for budget users who love streaming, playing games and instant messaging.
Power users who require higher speeds, international roaming and such will be better off with one of U Mobile’s HERO Postpaid plan or POWER Prepaid options.
