Catch birds. Cage birds. Farm random stuff until you get a dragon fruit. From that point onwards, expand farm as much as you like, feed dragon fruits to birds to gain more dragon fruit seeds, and you will soon have an infinite source of one of the best food items in the game.

There are quite a few other things this guide is lacking, but I found that specific tidbit to be quite important.

-Pigs have a random chance of Turning on Full Moons.

-Pigs can die with your hats if you give it to them and it absorbs damage!

-Don’t camp near a spider nest. Bad idea. They come out at night.

-If you hear a weird noise coming from no particular direction, get ready for those Hounds to pay a visit.

-Once you attack a bees nest, they will remember you. To get close again you’ll need the beekeeper hat.

-Interestingly, other things besides rabbits can occasionally fall into your traps, including butterflies and birds. (I did not know this when I set them up near the rabbits, and was surprised when I got bugs and feathers instead of meaty goodness.)

-Chests are very useful. It is good to look into researching boards and chests for storing away things like stones for later.

-Apparently with a recent update, killing things willy nilly will bring to you a monster called the Krumpus that will bash your chests open, dumping the contents on the ground. It does not, however, break it. (Or so far as I know.)
