[Rumor] Final Fantasy XIII Versus Might Be Cancelled.

Dear Final Fantasy fans, I have to admit that JRPG is one of the genres that inspired me. However, their magic died within me as Square Enix may have sucked away everything from our swash-buckling fantasy. Messengers from Kotaku have mentioned that hopes of seeing Final Fantasy Versus XIII may be dying off.

I’m drawing out conclusions based on the timeline from Kotaku, things are not looking optimistic at all.

March 2012

Earlier this spring, Final Fantasy Versus XIII designer Tetsuya Nomura spoke with Japanese game mag Famitsu about the title, which has only ever been seen in trailer and screenshot form.

“We’re almost done with preparing the latest info for the game,” Nomura told Famitsu. “Because of a totally unrelated reason, there are circumstances in which that info cannot be released.”

May 2012

Nomura once again commented on the game, telling Game Informer, “We would like to ask for your patience on an official announcement for this title. It always takes time when tackling the challenge of doing something completely new, but we are doing our best to bring information to the fans as quickly as we can. Your patience is greatly appreciated.”

July 2012

“We have no information on the status of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but will be sure to update you as it becomes available.” This is what they replied to Kotaku, weird thing is, they never asked whether it was ready. All they had asked was whether the game is still UNDER DEVELOPMENT.

The actual fact: FF Versus XIII was announced back in E3 2006.

You be the judge.

With All Hopes and Could Be

Being a FF fan, there will always be a ray of hope called optimism in the corner of my heart. I will always look forward to the next announcement from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Events, “We have no information on the status of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but will be sure to update you as it becomes available.” and Tokyo Game Show 2012. If there are none, I will replay all the Final Fantasy titles just to shed a tear or two while staring at the ‘Game Over’ on screen.
