I wish I had 80k to spend on any car. :-)

I think those that slag off the R3 etc have owned a proton car at least and they are venting their disappointment in Proton and not with the car.

I am one of them so I know. BUt since Vernon loves his R3, go ahead. Every dog to his bone. My bone would be the 106Gti. Loved that car. A real big ball tester car. The more you pushed it, the more it would bark back and say, … is that all? Come on, give me more !!!

That said from the many cars I have tested, NONE have made me smile more, laugh more, grin more, look back at the car after parking more, always picking up the keys more, inviting more friends for a ride, more friends saying that is one car they all would love to buy…. ! It was a real hoot.

Sadly nowadays I just can’t find that enjoyment anymore and boy do I miss that little pug 106Gti in Diablo red. Its like the first girlfriend I had,… I can never forget.

As for my current ride, if I could get ride of it, I would and I would NEVER miss any of it. Ok I am lying here. I will miss the Recaro seats. Thats all.

Well, let’s just say those who figure “why bother?” probably already bought a GTi, Putra, EG and so forth. “Why bother? Answer: Been there done that” But for the rest of us with 80k to spare on a new sports car which requires little or no modding to worry about; just play out of the box, the Satria R3 is it.

But you’re right, it’s not selling like hot cakes. I’d assume it’s because people are judging it as a 15yr old design that’s been modified. Sadly, why don’t these people see the EK9 as a modified EK4? It’s pretty much what an R3 is to a GTi, really. In fact, some GTi Club members used to dub the R3 as a GTi Type-R.

Testing? A production car is taken for a >>30,000km almost non-stop reliability cum wear/tear run for a start. For the performance/handling bits; dynos, sprint/topspeed measurements and track times. Crash testing the Satria has probably been done 15yrs ago already. I really would like to know what else there is to test.

Do note the SR3 despite all the hype, I do not consider that it sold like hot cakes. I bet they are still selling it on the website. Goes to show that despite it being limited edition, there are many wise people out there that would not take proton hype.

Just my view Vernon. YOu love the car by the looks of it and good for you. YOu spent a good deal of dosh on it. BUt there are many out there that figure why bother? Did Proton really test everything out or just go out and buy good stuff and slap it on.

The only thing diff is the extra welding the SR3 got but everything else is just at the end of the day, modifications. Anyone could do it and with Lotus behind, well the handling would have been the easiest to sort.

I think I know why there are people that suggest taking a 1.3 and doing it up. At the end of it all, it would be car 001 out of 001… ie truly limited and unique.

My point being, there will always be the other side of the coin and like all petrol heads, the debate will never die…my car is better than yours.:-)

Note: I agree that my Sgti is lousier than your SR3. That I accept.
